How strange it was, to see a lone Pokémon on a route so full of life. Route one was full of hope. Full of first battles. Full of first chances. Full of first captures. It was a time for her to test the waters of her life. To see just how far she could go.
The Seel did manage to catch her off guard, with the question it asked and with its presence in general. "I - no, I specifically am not the cause of the poison in your waters. I apologize on behalf of humans for the pollution, however." Merida bit her lip. Now what? Was she meant to battle? Should she try to catch it?
Her fingers pressed the button of one of the Pokéballs on her belt, releasing her Hopip in a flash of red. "This is Wesley. I... don't know how this works, exactly. Am I meant to battle you? You seem far too kind for that." She didn't know at all, but it was best to assume it was a kind soul.[/style]

the seel eyed her coldly, looking down at his flippers. she hesitated. for just a moment, but she had hesitated, and as he always said, he who hesitates is lost. he growled at the hoppip, knowing that this little pink fluffy Pok?mon was probably an accomplice in the poisoning of the streams. < i don't believe you, > he said coldly, sliding down off his little rock towards the trainer. < and on behalf of all my family and friends, i'm going to punish you for what you've been doing to this environment! > he was sure of himself, dead sure that he couldn't possibly be wrong. he shook his head, muttering to himself. < how this works. how this works? arceus save me from humans, > he spat rebelliously under his breath, and rolled forward faster than his larger girth probably made it seem possible to headbutt the hoppip with his thick, stubborn forehead. WILD SEEL level 07 • thick fat + hydration • male headbutt, growl, water sport confident, composed, rebellious used growl and headbutt!

The Seel was not a fan of her and, no matter what she said, it would not believe her. That much was obvious. She had to struggle to gulp down the frustration that was building in her lungs and threatening to burst through her defenses.
Be calm. Be calm, Mer. You will be fine. It is just another battle. Despite everything she tried to tell herself, she couldn't wrap her head around it. This was her first time ever battling a wild Pokémon. This was her first wild Pokémon encounter! Was it like the things that occurred in the Trainer's Lounge? Were they fair? She would not fight if it was unfair...
Though she had no room to object as the beast rushed forward, growling and headbutting her poor Wesley all at the same time. "No!" The Hoppip danced backward, trying to avoid it, but to no avail. The Seel was stronger. Faster. More skilled in the art of battling. Wes was too kind for such violence.
He floated himself up into the air after being hit, however, making sure to regain his composure. "Use... seed bomb, please." Wes nodded, flinging seeds without hesitation. It was his only offensive move - he simply had to be prepared to do it when nothing else was really expected of him.[/style]

the seel was feeling pretty proud of itself when suddenly it realised it was on the receiving end of a pretty painful type disadvantage. well, that shot all his hopes out of the water, didn't it? nevertheless, he was going to fight for the rights and freedom of all the little water Pok?mon in this route. they did not deserve to have their homes polluted, their friends and family get sick and die. it wasn't fair, and somebody had to pay - and the stubborn seel didn't care who it was. he snorted as the trainer asked her Pok?mon ever so politely to perform an attack, like a dainty little flower. < come on, little lady, is that the best you've got? > but his taunt was cut short when he was hit with little seed bombs flying through the air and exploding in a green mist around his head. that wasn't a good omen for the rest of the battle: he was going to get totally and utterly slaughtered if she kept this up. < good move, but you won't get many more of those, > he said, calm and composed when under duress as ever. gathering some of the water in his mouth from the stream nearby, he spouted it at the trainer and Pok?mon, covering them in splashes of water. < see? the water is polluted because of your kind! someone has to do something about it! >

It wanted her to do something about its home. But what? She was only one person. A person who attempted to be as environmentally friendly as possible. She recycled. She picked up litter. Mer truly was very conscious about the world around her. It was how she was brought up.
But how could she show him that? "Synthesis," she muttered softly to the Hoppip. He understood. Rather than healing himself, the sunlight tinted the polluted water yellow for just a moment - then back to the crystal color it was always meant to be. Though it dripped from them, it was hard to tell it was clean. But dammit, Wes had cleaned what little he had been told to do.
If they could all work together to clear the waters, more and more Pokémon would come to live on the route. "We are not all bad. I will do what I can - I will rally trainers and breeders and coordinators - and I can promise you that I will try my hardest to fix what humanity has done. Alright?"
She shook her head. What to do, what to do. She was not going to direct an attack. But it seemed Wes was. With an angry frown, he once again fired seeds toward the Seel. "WES. Do not attack without me telling you to! Teams need to work together!" Shit. Now what? The Seel was going to murder her... What if it rallied its Pokémon friends?! Oh, what a mess she was in...[/style]

when the trainer called another attack, the seel was ready. but it didn't hit him, rather the water he had sprayed at them. it turned the water from its dull muddy colour of earlier to a pristine sapphire blue, the type of clean and clear water he was used to. admiring its beauty and the way tiny rainbows reflected in the droplets, the seel was satisfied with this answer, and called off his attacks. < i will hold you to your promise. but i can see now you're not all that bad. are there others like you, others who want to help? > he was truly curious and wanted to know how humanity felt about their natural companions. did some people actually really care? this was a new idea to the embittered seel, used to being a lonely crusader of nature. suddenly, though, the moment was broken when he was hit with another volley of attacks. he was starting to feel weak due to this type disadvantage, and that really made him angry. < how dare you! i thought we had a deal! > he was hurt more emotionally than physically, though both were a bitch to deal with. he roared and launched at the pink Pokémon to angrily headbutt her full in the face. < i'll teach you to break your promises! > he yelled, threatening to bring the mountain down in an avalanche with his roaring.

Were there others? There were. She was sure. It was just a matter of finding them. With everything going on, it was hard to keep up with Aethra. "There are many others, dear. Across the world, really. Here in Aethra, things will get better. If you would like to join me - just tag along with me, not even as a team member - you could rally the people."
She shrugged, but shot numerous glares at Wes as his seed bombs hit home once more. "STOP, Wes." He was relentless. Even now, he was glaring at the Seel. He did not want to have to deal with any other Pokémon threatening his position on the team. The Hoppip floated through the air with a scowl on his face. Oh, Arceus.
She was about to speak, but a growl shook her to her core. It was scary - menacing, even - and threw both her and Wes off guard. But as the Seel rushed forward in a headbutt, Wes decided to do the smart thing. Take more damage by meeting the Seel head-first. It would get him in close enough proximity to fire off another attack.
He was not, however, expecting the attack to hit him so hard. Wes gritted his teeth and barely managed to fire off another weak seed bomb attack before floating backward and toppling to the ground. Shit, he hurt. "Wes! Stop fighting." Looking back between the two of them, she muttered almost at a whisper, "are you two alright?"
She was about to start shaking. She could feel it on. She didn't want to betray the Seel's trust. It was not in her nature to be deceiving or cruel.[/style]
