 [ NAME ]
Kyoshi
[ AGE ]
Thirty
[ BIRTHDAY ]
Seventh of April
[ GENDER ]
Female
[ NOTABLE FEATURES ]
Height: 7f, 5in approx Abnormally large feet Physically powerful Probably slower than a turtle and quite heavy
[ APPEARANCE ]
Long auburn tresses slightly shorter at the front to curtain her eyes, length to mid-spine and flares around her shoulders like the hood of an angered cobra. Her eyes are narrowed. Overall she is powerful, broad-shouldered and well built, tall with large feet, a square jaw and a fairly masculine physique. Towering over even fully grown men by two-to-three heads, she can be an intimidation just walking down the street. By society's standards she isn't the most beautiful person and comes across as quite deviant; in fact men tend to find her unattractive because of her height. She always wears what you see in the picture; moss green robes beneath an emerald tunic, and dark trousers that are tucked into large boots, like her sleeves are tucked into her gloves. It's impossible to tell what her skin colour is because she is never seen without her white war paint, but by the dark green hue of her eyes, it can be assumed that she is Caucasian. She also carries around two metal fans which are tucked into her obi, and these can be used as weapons, though she more often uses them to cool herself down on humid days. She also carries around a hunting knife, which she uses when in the wilderness, and has a spare slotted down the inside of her boot in case she loses that. She wears a golden headpiece that are like her fans, and two tassels hang down from each side.
[ PERSONALITY TRAITS ]
Kyoshi is very attitudinal and stubborn and this is shown through sarcasm. Sometimes it comes from her blunt honesty, because she's truthful about things and saying them even if nobody really wants to hear it. In fact many people have suggested that she may have a superiority complex, thinking that she is better than other people. If you read into her history, you'll find out more, but it's spawned from being bullied when she was younger—for being tall and masculine and “ugly”. This attitude can also lead to violence, sometimes justified and sometimes not. Don't get her wrong though; mocking people and being snarky is one of her ways of showing affection … amongst other things. She is, however, fair, and gives what she gets, if not more.
Straight-forwardness is also another signature trait of hers. Rather than beat around the bush, Kyoshi just cuts directly to the chase and often phrases things in an impatient or disinterested way. Sometimes this offends those she interacts with because she won't ask “so did you talk to xe?” if a character has broken up with a partner, she'll just bluntly ask “you done with xe now?”. She prefers straight-forwardness in other people when talking to her, and is actually the same way when she acts. When faced with danger and given a chance to talk things out, she might give it a try depending on the circumstances. But she'll end someone if she has to, and doesn't give second chances.
Decisiveness, is also something that can be associated with Kyoshi, and the lack of hesitation. Once she has sworn to do something she will not go back on her word or go half-way, she follows things through to the end. She's very political in that she'll phrase things loosely to give herself the most freedom. Being tied to something or someone is very unusual for her and she prefers to act on her own, being a little bit anti-social and isolated. Regarding authority she can be seen as a bit anti-police but she'll co-operate the best way and only way she knows how.
Commanding. Kyoshi is not a follower; she doesn't do well in team-based activities and immediately challenges those who think they can try and lead her. Unwilling to back down from any challenge, she gives orders rather than asks and expects that to be completed as quickly as possible and correctly carried out. It can make others around her feel uncomfortable or perhaps annoyed but she doesn't care for insolence and spits in the face of disloyalty—not meaning that she herself is disloyal.
[ GOALS ]
Kyoshi wishes to become a powerful Pokémon trainer so that she can do things without being challenged and so she can command the respect she thinks she deserves.
She also wishes to prove those who doubt her wrong--by any means necessary.
[ LIKES ]
Courage and strength Sports / Rock-climbing / Mountain climbing Body building Challenges Fighting
[ DISLIKES ]
Swimming Water (she has hydrophobia) Fear (in herself and others) Failure Backing down from anything
[ HISTORY ]
Kyoshi lived on a village on a peninsula when she was young, and this village was harmonious and peaceful—a safe haven, they called it. But it was not perfect. Kyoshi was born and raised by villagers and went to the local school, where she was bullied. At first it was because she was short, she was slow to grow up, the smallest in her year until she reached the age of maturity—and then she became too big. She wasn't obese, but she was very masculine; broad-shouldered and strong, taller than everyone else in the school. Her attempts at trying to make friends caused her to become increasingly shunned and eventually she just gave up trying and started learning martial arts.
She graduated her school a loner and a bully who had managed to silence the rumours that circulated before they even started. By fighting. She wasn't afraid of punching the other students or beating them up to the point of serious injury, because she felt it was the only way she could get the message across. Several times her parents were called in, or greeted her after school to find her knuckles bruised and eyes blackened. They warned her over and over again that violence wasn't the answer to her problems, but for Kyoshi and her experiences, it seemed the only thing that actually worked.
She did have the sense to stay away from gang rivalries and initially refused to get involved when they approached her, but eventually she was dragged in. To her it seemed like these people actually wanted to be around her, so she learned the ropes, taught them and learned from them, and got into more serious trouble as the years went by. At age twenty-five she already had a criminal record of multiple instances of gang violence, theft and physical assault, and a daughter to take care of. She was the leader of the gang that had taken her in and she had instated new rules—the first of all to hide their face beneath war paints, so that it was harder for them to be identified.
Her parents didn't know what to do with her and confronted her again over her behaviour. In the only instance that Kyoshi still regrets to this day, she raised her hand against her father and ended up kicked out onto the streets. She left, and left her daughter there, telling her parents that as dangerous as she seemed, she didn't want her daughter growing up into the sort of life she had.
She didn't completely ignore her mother and fathers' wishes, though. She didn't smoke, didn't take drugs or drink. She did carry around a knife though—for her own protection. Which got her into multiple amounts of trouble when she was finally arrested (despite being a skilled fighter, she is a very slow runner and not too keen on anything with the word flee in it, unless the word don't is right behind it). She was sent to prison for five years for several counts of assault on police and possession of a knife. Perhaps the turning point of her life was when she got out at the age of thirty, and finally understood what her parents had been trying to tell her. She wanted to go and see her daughter, who at this point would have been twelve years old, but when she went to visit her, she discovered that a rival gang had threatened her family and they had fled to another location.
Remorseful because of her actions and wiser because of her time in prison, she left the peninsula two days later and decided to start her life over again—this time as a Pokémon trainer. She'd heard from doctors and psychologists at the prison that Pokémon had a strange way of bringing out the better side in someone, and decided to test this theory for herself. Now she's turning over a new leaf, and because she can't completely escape her past, she would do her best to put it behind her.
[ QUIRKS ]
War paint and fans. Kyoshi is never seen without her war paint or fans and will probably punch you in the face if you even suggest she remove either one. When in Pokémon battles she tends to have both fans in her hand because she is conscious of the hunting knives in her belt and boot, and doesn't want to end up reaching for it again.
Hydrophobia (fear of water) Kyoshi has a fear of water that she finds difficult to overcome. She hates swimming and must have her feet on the ground at all times, though she enjoys flying.
Drawn to grass, rock and ground types. Kyoshi is fond of these Pokémon because they are familiar to her. In the peninsula where she lived before they became skylands (teehee pun) there was an abundance of these. The gang she was a part of was themed around Scyther and the Pokémon that guarded the prison were Sandslash.
[ CATCH PHRASE ]

"(And) I don't regret it."
"Bring it."
