It was just too cold, just as summer was far too hot. The only happy mediums were spring and fall, which were mildly depressing in her opinion. In spring, everything bloomed only to inevitably die. In fall, the inevitable death came. Seasons offered the girl far too much to think about.
'Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out.' This was just another normal day, right? So what if she was somehow going to get her starter Pokémon. What happened happened. She just needed to stop worrying and roll with the flow of things. That was her biggest problem - she worried far too much.
Her feet crunched on snow as she strolled into the Ranger Headquarters. There was only a singular tent - nothing else but tall grass. There was no doubt in her mind that wild pokémon frequented the area. A shiver rolled up her spine at the very thought.
Merida stuffed her hair into her pockets, long blonde hair flowing behind her as she walked into the tent that was surely home to the pokémon rangers. "H - hello? My name is Merida, and I come in hopes of getting a starter." She was speaking more to herself than to those in the tent. However, she was sure she still sounded insane.[/style] |

Bertha settled into her chair with a contented sigh. It was cold and miserable, and she was stuck in a job she loathed, but at least she still had moments like this: moments she could just sit back and relax in her chair with a good book, a hot drink, and no distractions. Winter was a fickle bitch, but she did a good job at deterring most from visiting the station, and since she was on duty much of the time in the winter, it was rare for her to see company. Which was, of course, how she liked it. Nothing to bother her…
…she heard a voice call out then, and was visited by the overwhelming urge to strangle its owner for disrupting her peace and quiet. It was always the way; you got settled in and comfortable, and some nosy little brat came wandering along making demands. How she loathed this job! Stiffly, she raised herself out of her chair to face the girl who came in – without waiting to be asked, as well! – introducing herself and cutting right to the chase. Never mind that there was a tired old woman in the tent; no no, her needs came first. It was always the way with the younger generations; no respect whatsoever.
“Well? What are you waiting for, child? Nothing out here but snow and ice. Get in here! The sooner you’re in, the sooner you’re out again.”
With fingers numbed by the cold and stiffened by arthritis, Bertha pulled out a Pokéball, releasing her Charizard and sending it off with a wave of her hand. There was no way in any lifetime she was going outside in the cold to get Pokémon for this little girl. She busied herself with gathering items for her uninvited guest – fortunately, she’d thought to pack the bags beforehand - wincing as her bones creaked as she bent down. Too old for this already, never mind the getting part. She managed somehow, however, and thrust the bag out at the aspiring trainer.
“Items, for the journey.” she said briskly, by way of explanation. “Now sit down and be patient; my Charizard will be back when he’s back.”

It hadn't even registered to her that someone could possibly be napping in the ranger tent! Oh, she was a horrible person. Her instincts were screaming at her to apologize to the woman while her mind was telling her to hold her ground.
"I - I'm terribly sorry. Please forgive my insolence." On long, stiff legs she strode closer to the older woman, a smile playing on her lips. This was it. The beautiful Charizard was off to get her Pokémon. Her rudeness was shining through in that she had failed to introduce herself, which she realized immediately upon noting the silence that fell in the room.
Merida extended a hand to the woman, nothing but kindness on her face. "My name is Merida. It is a pleasure to meet you, miss." She was about to continue talking but the subject of items beat her to it. Items? For her own journey? "Oh, this is so kind! Thank you very much."
The girl was beaming like an idiot. She followed instructions as best as she could, sitting down to wait for the woman's Charizard to come back. "Have many people been here today?" She could only imagine how hard it would be to deal with new people all the time. The very idea made her shudder.[/style] |

stop now! before it's too late, your lover was for hire, have you noticed he's been late? [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,460,true][atrb=style, background: url(http://i53.tinypic.com/a2vuas.png); padding: 5px; text-align: justify; color: #202020;]Bertha!
50 | bitter that she never got to have a journey . forgetful
Bertha was always a stubborn woman and it was her fault in the first place to not go on her own journey when she had the chance. Although, Bertha had been mean and just plain hateful ever since she realized she was much too old to go now. Oh, how she hated the young and their desires to be the best. Bertha wanted to be the best one day, why couldn't she do it too?
Age was the problem and the woman sighed, crossing her arms as she shook her head at the girl. "Don't apologize, just get in here.." She spoke clear enough for the girl to hear. Did she have weedles in her ears or something? Someone needed to respect their elders better. After the girl had shot back a few questions, she seemed so excited and that just pissed Bertha off more. It wasn't the new girl's fault, it was just that the old woman didn't like people very much.
"Introductions are petty. No time for all that child." She shot glare at the girl, reaching over into a box filled with small bags. She picked one up and sat it on the table. "Items. Take these and don't ask stupid questions." She shook her head again. There wasn't time for small talk and just as she was thinking of another remark, the Charizard busted through the door, carrying three Pokémon with him that he had rescued from the cold. Which would the girl choose?
"Hurry up. I ain't got all day." Bertha urged the girl to choose- and quickly.

"Here we go."[/style][STYLE=float: right; width: 60px; text-align: left; font-size: 8px; margin: 10 -65 0 0; padding: 8 0 12 4; text-transform: uppercase; border-left: 1px dotted;]getting a starter! <3[/style][STYLE=width: 350px; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; padding: 5px;]Merida bit her lip as the Charizard came back, snow fluttering down behind it. In its arms were three frozen Pokémon, each of which looked colder than the next. These were her choices. It was now or never. But how would she choose between any of them?
She first looked at the Ledyba. It would be a great defensive Pokémon for battle. But that was truly all it could offer her. She wasn't a huge fan of bugs, either. They were kind of creepy. Although the Ledyba was actually sort of cute! It even acted cuddly and playful. It was kind of perfect.
Next was Aron. Aron was ideal for both offense and defense. Regardless as to what she would do, he would fit into place. She couldn't imagine them being common, either. She hadn't seen many in her nineteen years. But the way it was looking at her was offputting. It seemed rebellious and vaguely hesitant to even be in the tent.
And that left Hoppip. It may not be great in battle (in fact, it had terrible ratings by most professional trainers), it was perfect for breeding. And honestly, it didn't seem to be all that bad. So that was what she was left with. Hoppip.
Merida shut her eyes tightly as she picked the little pink Pokémon out of the Charizard's arms. "Looks like it is you and me, bud." His loving eyes told her all that she needed to know. This was her new partner. "I will get out of your way, miss. Thank you for everything." She bowed her head, walking slightly backwards so as not to disturb the woman more.
